The establishment known today as Ebonyi State Ministry of Works, emanated from the Eastern Nigerian Government, Public Works Department (PWD) which served as workshop for equipment used for construction and maintenance of roads in the then Abakaliki Province.

 

The (PWD) which also was changed with maintenance of public buildings and renovation of public properties was on State creation on 1st October 1996, by the first Military Administrator, Commander Walter Feghabor changed to Ministry Of Works, Land & Housing.

And it took off from the base workshop of the Public Works Department (PWD) which still have most of the maintenance structures in place at the premises of the Ministry till date.

 

The need for smooth running and effective service delivery prompted the State Government to create other Ministries, thereby splitting Ministry of Works & Transport and Ministry of Lands & Survey and for Housing.
